The Dream Honeymoon....

That has turned into the dream 5 year anniversary trip

A couple Saturdays ago I got online and planned what I wanted to be our honeymoon. It was great, I loved it. But it was expensive.

I was still trying hard to not give up on my dream/idea of a "proper" honeymoon which had two major components: Out of country and at least a week or so. So I had been looking at Canada and had narrowed it down to Nova Scotia.

Down side? Spirit Air does not fly to Halifax and through my parents generosity and a deal Spirit was doing, if we used Spirit we wouldn't have to pay for the air plane tickets. We could fly to Toronto, Montreal or even Maine but those are 8-13 hour flights themselves and then we would have to drive 9-10 hours just to get there. And for us it is not worth that. There are plenty of Airlines that do fly to Halifax but those tickets are expensive.

But I decided to plan it anyway just to see what I would end up with. I was working with your vacation time over Labor Day. With only taking 4 days off we can be out of work for 9. Perfect opportunity!

Our Itinerary:

September 1: Halifax Metro
-Fly in and stay at A Paddle and Ponder Guest House

September 2: Halifax Metro and South Shore
-Tour Alexander Keith's Nova Scotia Brewery
-Check out Bedford Institute of Oceanography
-Spend the night at Atlantica Hotel & Marina Oak Island

September 3: Yarmouth and South Shore

-Stay at 1775 Solomon House

September 4: Fundy Shore
-Take a cruise with Brier Island Whale & Seabird Cruises
-Go on a graveyard tour with Candlelight Graveyard Tours
-Stay at Admiral Digby Inn

September 5: Fundy Shore
-Go visit the Avondale Sky Winery
-Stay at A Seafairing Maiden

September 6: Fundy Shore
-Go see Blomidon Inn Gardens
-Drink more wine at Blomidon Inn Gardens
-Stay at Annapolis Royal Inn

September 7: Eastern Shore, Northumberland, Fleur De Lis
-Visit the Canso Museum: Whitman House
-Visit the Arisaig Lighthouse
-Stay at Annfield Manor

September 8: Halifax Metro
-Take a tour with Tattle Tours
-Visit Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum
-Stay at A Paddle & Ponder Guest House

September 9:
-Fly home :(

We are basically seeing Nova Scotia in a circle starting and ending in Halifax. If/When we go on this trip we may tweak where were are staying but that is pretty much the foundation of the trip. I tried to plan fun things to do but leave time to relax or do something else we hadn't heard about.

What are we currently thinking about for the Honeymoon? Vegas! No gambling (maybe a quarter to say we have done it) but day trips like visiting the Hoover Dam, visiting Bonnie Ranch, etc. I will post on that once we narrow things down.

Update on regular life

Sorry for the long break in posting....nothing has really happened to really prevent me from blogging so I guess life just got away.

Marriage life is really not different for us. The only strange thing is my new last name but I quickly got used to that because of my new job.

Still not sure what we are going to do for a honeymoon. We don't have as much left over from the wedding budget so I am not sure what we are going to be able to afford. We were invited to join a two other couples to go on a cruise next March/April to the Carribean so maybe we make that a honeymoon? I know your supposed to go away just the two of you but I just dont really feel that that is so important with us. Brian and I have gone away by ourselves plenty of times. Also...that is a bit far away for a honeymoon.

I have had my IUD taken out. Brian and I are not actively trying but we are no longer preventing. I did find a great obgyn and office so I am excited about that but I did receive news that I was not expecting. I have always known that I would more then likely have issues getting pregnant on my own and we are currently waiting and seeing but an issue I have known about is apparently a bigger issue then I thought. I will post about it later. Right now I am trying to fight the withdrawal symptoms from having my IUD taken out.

My Mom and Dad have made great progress in their move out of the Great White North and I am getting so excited for their move.

We finally got our bookshelves so we are putting together Brian's man cave this weekend so I will be posting pictures of that. We are also getting our ducks in a row for the future projects so hopefully I will have more pictures of that.

Work is still going well. Transitioning well to being on the phones full time. Overtime is no longer required which is good because I am about burnt out of overtime. There is overtime this Saturday, I may do it...it depends on how I feel.

I really feel that is about it. There will be posts describing my pregnancy journey and what I have to do or am lucky that I do not have to do and I will of course keep you posted on the house as it gets finished. I will definitely do a better job keeping you all up to date.

Honeymoon drama

I am stuck on the Honeymoon. I have always said that we (should I really be saying "I" in this case?) would like to go abroad as we see it being easier now sans kids then later with kids, school, dogs, other responsibilities. I have also said that I wanted it be a week or so and not a weekend trip if we could.

I am thinking now that maybe we can't.

I thought about Ireland:

Ireland is an English speaking country, we could do it in a week and it isn't too hard to get to. However I have been there and Brian hasn't so he is probably going to want to see things I already have seen and I will want to see things I haven't. They also drive on the opposite side of the road which I can do but Brian hasn't yet and I do not want to be the only one driving. They also mainly drive stick which I can do but Brian cannot and again I do not want to be the only one driving. We could rent an automatic but that just adds more to the cost. I definitely want to get back to Ireland but I am starting to think that we should go someplace neither of us have been.

I am also starting to feel cheap so we thought about Canada:

Obviously English speaking (outside of Montreal/Quebec), the drive on the correct side of the road, easier to get to and even in the peak season it is cheaper. We would stay on the eastern side of Canada: Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Halifax, etc. I looked into the all inclusive, pre planned tours and they barely go anywhere so we would plan it ourselves as we like to cover a lot of ground. Down side? Still don't know if we could afford to go there and Brian isn't a fan of Canada.

I then thought about Iceland:

Iceland is an English speaking country (right) and would be something new and different. However it is more difficult to get to, isn't that cheap and has a lot of outside activities which is great for me but not so much for Brian.

I have since been starting to think of staying in the US but going somewhere we couldn't make into a day trip or a 4 day weekend trip. Maybe seeing the West coast sans California? Colorado? Washington? Oregon?

I can't really plan anything because we don't know how much money we will have saved up for it. I know some people ask or use the money they get for their wedding for the honeymoon but I don't really want to do that. That money will either go towards paying of student loans or for the house. All the money we are currently saving is going towards the house. When we go and for how long will also depend on how much money we have. I hate this because I feel like I should know, or be able to plan this and I can't. It is one of the fun questions when you find out someone is getting married and I don't have a fun answer.

And part of me doesn't care about the honeymoon. We are going to go on one because I know I will regret it later but at the moment I would much rather take that money and accomplish a couple things on our house to do list.
