Seventh Month Update!

As I am officially starting my 8th month it is time to update on the 7th month.

Nothing too exciting happened except I finally started looking pregnant and I have a text book boy belly. It is heavy! Thor is moving a ton! I am supposed to count his movements...he is supposed to move 10 times in 3 hours. Um...this little man only needs three minutes! He is constantly moving. I am still trying to catch it on video...he is still taking after his father on this one.

Still no agreement on a name. Everyone at work is getting nervous that we are actually going to name him Thor. Thor may stick as a nickname but will not be on his birth certificate. Thor Carter wouldn't be taken very seriously on college applications, job applications or wedding announcements. Brian is becoming more helpful in suggesting names but still no luck. He really likes the name Parker (yes he really likes Spider Man) and I do like that name...however it is AWFUL with our last name. It rhymes. His other favorite is Paul. Fine name, nothing wrong with it exactly it just isn't very fun. I don't think of a sweet little boy with that name. I think you should name a child with a name that will fit through all stages of life and Paul just makes me think of an old man.

I haven't gotten sick in a while which is nice. I hope it stays away but I am on the look out for it to come back. The sickness came back for my mom when she was pregnant with my brother and so far I am taking after mom with this pregnancy. I am up a total of 26 1/2 lbs so I am still doing well. I can't wait for this little one to be here...for many reasons but the main one right now is that once he is out mommy is going to make me Eggplant Parmesan and I cannot wait to eat that!! I know I am going to eat too much of it at once but oh well!

I am still sleeping well which is nice. Every once in a while I will have a "bad" night but even that is not so bad. My back is starting to hurt more. That is annoying. Also I have been having to get up once a night to go potty which is also annoying. Two more months, two more months.

Here are this months pictures:

Still an innie!

My backside really isn't as big as it looks in this picture...

Yes, Brian is still Brian

The crib is set up, sheets are on the bed and everything is in place. All that is left to do is get the electrician to come in and move the security system outlet into the closet where it was supposed to be in the beginning which will be done in April and we are still trying to find a way to get the entertainment center disposed of.
After the baby shower I hope mom will help me organize all the clothes we have received so far. Once we do that the nursery is all set up. It is nice to know that we are ready for baby if baby makes a surprise showing (very very doubtful, fully expected to make it to full term...40 weeks).

My co-workers have been beyond generous which is greatly appreciated but it leads to lots of organizing and mom may have more insight on how to do it since she has already raised two kiddos. I have a few pictures from work's baby shower and I will definitely take more myself of what I have gotten so I can document it. I do not want to forget their generosity. I will also post pictures of Mom's baby shower and of the baby shower Brian's work is throwing us.

We are getting closer!

Work Update :)

Sorry I have been distant...it's been very very busy and I have been very tired.

*While this will be about work, I just wanted to let everyone know that Thor is doing just fine. Moving around a bunch and just being Thor. We are at about 31 weeks and technically have 6 weeks to go until I hit full term (37) but I am hoping he stays in there longer. And we are not much closer to deciding a name.

A couple weeks ago I mentioned that I may have something positive coming down the pipelines in regards to work. And it actually happened and I can announce it publicly. :)

I got a promotion!

I am now one of the company's Project Assistants. I am no longer on the phones and am working 8-5 which should make doing the day care tango with Thor easier. Because I am no longer on the phones I also will have more flexibility in leaving if Thor gets sick and needs to go home unexpectedly as I am sure he will time to time.

I started on the 18th and I am enjoying it so far. They are easing me into the position due to the fact that in 9 weeks or so I will be out for 6 weeks because of Thor. The person I am replacing will keep some of her responsibilities and will pick up for the 6 weeks that I am gone. Once I am back from maternity leave I should end up taking over everything.

So whats coming up?

I need to post about works baby shower
I need to do a post for the 7 month update
I need to post about Moms baby shower

I am sure there are more things but that's all I can remember at the moment. I hope to do the 7 month update this week but the baby shower updates will probably be next week.  I don't think I am doing to well in my New Years goal to update this more often :)

Baby's First Books!!!

One of my very good friends, Nicole, could not make it to my baby shower so she sent her gift early! I of course could not wait until the baby shower and opened it early :)

Thank you so much Nicole! We love it and I can't wait to read them to Thor and then have Thor read them to us!

1st Wedding Anniversary

On March 3, 2013 Brian and I have been married for a year. Man time flies!

We spent it with my parents in Charleston. Charleston was having their annual Food and Wine Festival and my parents were having their friends over and we were invited to join them! Most of their guests were also at our wedding so it was a lot of fun!

On Friday, March 1, Brian and I left from work and got down to Charleston around 7:30pm. We ended up arriving at the same time as most of the other guests which was great. Friday night was low key which we all needed but a lot of fun. Mom and Dad made gumbo for the guests and Mac and Cheese for me and we had appetizers before hand while we talked and hung out. Dad got pedi cabs for our guests to leave in at the end of the night, I think that was a really big hit. Betsy, my Aunt, stayed with us :)

I got an amazing scarf, belt and some money for the baby from Tammy and three handmade Penguins from Suzie as an anniversary gift. I love them both and mention them because they came with ribbon. I, in true Rachel fashion, dressed up Benjamin! He looks really handsome in pink :)

On Saturday was the festival. We met at 11am walked around. It was definitely fun. I obviously couldn't drink much but I was surprised that I was able to find enough to eat given my limitations. Everyone seemed to enjoy it. There were two big tents...the tent labeled The Piggly Wiggly tent had more to offer. We did meet some extremely nice vendors.

One was serving prime rib sandwiches and offered to make one custom for me (cook the meet more, take stuff out, whatever I wanted) which I did not take him up on as it was fabulous the way he had it and baby liked it. I was very impressed that with all the people there that they were willing and happy to accommodate me. I did not ask this chef to do this, I just mentioned that the baby does not let me eat good food to explain why I was hesitating on trying it. (I typically made Brian eat something first). This vendor was from a big fancy and nice restaurant...one we would love to visit if we ever felt rich enough. And one that we will visit if only to repay them for their kindness. I so wish I could remember their name :-\ Mommy brain is kicking in.

The next was Arizona tea company. Given that this was a Food and Wine I was going in knowing that I wasn't going to be able to drink much if anything. I was hoping that some cocktail vendors mixed the alcohol in when ordered or after a bit so I could have a "mocktail" as Sandra Lee calls it from Food Network but everyone had the alcohol already mixed in. Then we saw Arizona tea company and I was so excited because I knew I could have that. I mentioned to them how excited I was able to see them and got my sample. We walked around and came back and Brian asked if he could buy a can of tea. (most of the other vendors were selling things as well as giving samples away). The clerk just smiled and handed him a full, unopened can and wouldn't take any money for it. I have always liked Arizona iced tea and I now like them even more and will make more of an effort to buy their product. I am so glad they were there (they even had one of the more popular booths).

The third extremely nice vendor was from a company that was selling candles in old beer bottles and was giving mimosa's away as their drink. We had walked by them before but right before we left to go home we noticed that they were making more of the mimosa's and had orange juice without the alcohol. So Brian and I went up and asked if it was okay if I just got some orange juice. I was thinking I was just going to get the same amount as he was giving to other guests just without the alcohol. Nope! He took my wine glass (the one and only time it was used) and filled it up! I remember the company's name began with an Re.....like Renew or something. Mom is going to know. I am doing so bad at this.

And of course there are some pictures from the actual wine festival. Jet Blue was the other main sponsor and they were showing off their new seats and had props and would take your picture. Mom and the girls, in their true fashion, jumped in and had a blast!

It was about that time that we headed outside where Betsy, Brian, Dad and I went out and watched a burger display. The demonstration was okay but we were really there for the burger. They brought out 6 at a time (there were at least 50 of us) and kept giving them to the front row. If there was a steady stream of them it would have been fine however it was 10 minutes before each tray came out. Finally we got our burgers (I may have used the pregnancy card and grabbed three off a tray as they were entering the area). They were okay.

After that we headed home. I lay on the couch for a while and dad napped and Brian did something...not sure what. Mom and I went for another walk (I am trying to be as active as I can) and when we got back it was time to get ready for dinner.

We went to Poogan's Porch for dinner and had a good time. We were a party of 11 and our reservation was a little delayed because one of the tables they were counting on using was taking longer for desert then expected but we had fun hanging out in the bar-ish area. The food was okay. Everyone liked their choices much better then I did. I got the seafood pasta and the pasta wasn't cooked right at all...I had to cut it with a knife as it was all stuck together. And the sauce was bland. But they have some fabulous biscuits, their fried green tomatoes were excellent and I did enjoy my salad. So I ate the shrimp and scallops for dinner. Brian and I chose to share the bread pudding. That was okay. The best thing about that was that it was hot. By this time I was so tired and disappointed by my main meal that it would have taken a lot for me to like the bread pudding. We definitely had worse bread pudding but their chocolate peanut butter mouse pie thing was MUCH better. Someone in the group had that and let us try it. One interesting thing Brian and I noticed is that we were the only couple that was sitting together. Every other couple was sitting apart. It isn't a bad thing it was just interesting. We are chalking it up to us being newly weds.

Sunday was very low key. We got up, ate breakfast. Ate frozen year old cake where Brian decided he was going to take the four extra pieces and freeze them again so that for the next four years Brian and I will eat a slice on our anniversary. Sad goodbye to Betsy :( and then the gang :( and headed off home.

We still haven't done gifts....lol

Baby Items!

I have accumulated some more things that I thought I would share!

First an early baby shower gift:

Spiderman Diaper cake!

Excuse the mess...

I love it and Brian loves it! We haven't dissected it yet....I figure Mom may want to bring it to the Shower as decoration or something. It has little baby lotion, baby shampoo, spider man toys and it even has little baby son glasses! Like father like son!

My friend Jason's, from work, wife gave me an edition of Parenting Magazine. Within that magazine there was a coupon and that coupon lead to two more coupons. The coupons were for a car seat cover, nursing cover and sling. All I had to pay was shipping. Each item was worth between $45-$50 and I got all three and paid less then $40 in shipping.

First is the Car Seat Cover. This is possibly my favorite of the three. Very well made, looks good and definitely worth the sale price and shipping.

The second is the nursing cover. I also think it would be worth more then the shipping I paid. Maybe not the full sticker price...that will be determined when I actually put it to use but I definitely would have paid more then just shipping for it. I also love the pattern I chose. The top is adjustable and made like an apron which I like....easy to adjust. The top portion of the cover is rigid and creates a hole between the cover and me so I can look down and see the baby which I think is going to be a good feature as well.

I am standing when I will be typically sitting so it may not be sitting just right.

and finally the wrap. Probably my least favorite. Still glad I have it but I don't think it is worth more then what I paid for shipping. Again, we shall see when I actually have Thor. Also, the current position is for newborns and I am using Baby as a model....Baby is bigger then a newborn. I would try the 6 month carrying position but Baby is just a doll and doesn't hold on like a real six month old :)

Six Month Update!

I finally look and feel pregnant. I am still tiny but I am definitely pregnant. Getting up is awkward. Not difficult, just awkward.

I am still limited in what I can eat but as long as I stay within my limitations I am fine. I have put on 24 lbs since the beginning. We are thinking there was a scale error last month because I did not do anything differently and I did not just gain 8 lbs in one month. I do think I am up a total of 24 lbs but I think I gained more then one pound between month four and five.

I have gotten some energy back but I get exhausted really easily. I am sleeping well so far.

Baby has been moving up a storm and I love it! I am definitely going to miss it once the baby is born.
