Men's Warehouse

Back in December Brian and I went to Men's Warehouse so he could, hopefully, get some suits for any interview/future jobs he will get.

You may remember the disaster we encountered at Jos A Banks. We had the absolute opposite experience at Men's Warehouse! Based on my experience at Jos A Banks I had given up on my dream of getting Brian a suit and had relented to the idea of just some nice Dockers and button downs with ties.

We first started the day going into J.C. Penney. They had a nice selection but we had no clue on size for shirts. I made Brian try some on. They were either too big or too small or fine in the body but too big in the neck. We decided to leave as there was no one to help us and going that route was going to take hours. We headed over to Men's Warehouse with the idea that he would get sized, pick a few things because surely our money would not go nearly as far there as it would at J.C. Penney and I could get other shirts, etc later at other stores once we knew the size.

We walk into Men's Warehouse and get greeted by a very friendly sales lady. The first thing we noticed that they were having a buy one, get one sale that we could actually participate in. That made us happy since this hopefully meant we could get a little more then we originally thought. We start talking and end up telling her what happened at Jos A. Banks. She was horrified. She listened to exactly what we were looking for and knew exactly where to start. She started with a Trio where you would get a suit jacket, pants the same color as the suit jacket and a second pair of pants that were a different color but still went with the jacket. 2 outfits in 1 set. When she said Trio I was hesitant due to Jos A. Banks but these were MUCH better!

Since there was a buy one get one sale we picked out two trio's. (She also took us to the area that we could afford which we appreciated).

Black Suit

The "extra" pair of pants that came with the black suit

The navy blue suit

The extra pair of pants that came with the navy suit

Once we got the suits picked out in the approximate size another sales associate took Brian so he could get the suits fitted to him. While he was off doing that, the sales lady and I started picking out shirts and ties.  I insisted he had a white shirt and a light blue shirt. Those, thanks to Daddy, are considered basics in my mind. We at the time picked to yellow/beige shirts. Brian is a lot like Daddy in terms of his suits/ties/shirts. Take the fun out of it! I picked out about 7 or 8 ties expecting him to nix most of them.

When Brian came out he surprised us! He only nixed 2 ties or so and traded with a tie I never expected him to pick. He also traded one of the yellow/beige shirts with a grey shirt! He liked the majority of my ties but not all of them lasted as we were trying to get each tie to go with at least 2 shirts that way we would get the most out of our money.

The white he wore on his first interview, hasn't been re-ironed

What he wore to the second interview, I tied the tie :)

The blue and yellow/beige shirt
The orange tie was the shocker, the tie on top was the tie he wore with the white shirt

I do apologize for all these pictures being sideways, I haven't figured out how to turn them within blogger.

One thing I did not think about was shoes, belts and socks. I, of course, know that you can't wear regular shoes and socks with suits but had forgotten that we did not have them. Fortunately the sales lady asked and I remembered. Suit socks are socks so no pictures of that and he got a very basic brown belt and a plain black belt, nothing picture worthy. He did surprise me with the shoes. Again brown and black so he can get multiple outfits.

He has worn these twice, brown loafers

Black shoes similar to Daddy's

We would not have gotten as much if it were not for the buy one, get one sale. That is why it is all even numbers divisible by 2. I would have probably cut it back even more (2 shirts rather then 4, 4 ties rather then 6, 2 packets of socks rather then 4) but we got a little swept up with it and he is set for a long time. It was just such a great experience. I cannot describe it to you! It was even fun!

Brian definitely left with sticker shock even with the special and Christmas money. I don't think he quite understands why suits/work clothes have to be and are as expensive as they are. I, who am awful about spending money...I freak out spending money on much needed groceries where none of it is wasted...am feeling proud of what we have done. Sure it is a lot of money but he needs this, everything he has is a classic basic so will last a lifetime. Even if he doesn't get a job that needs a suit he can wear the bottoms and the button downs and ties. Or pair them with Dockers. He is set for any type of job he gets. Plus we got a GREAT deal on all of this. We got more then I had even originally dreamed off getting.

All of this was supposed to cost a little over $2500. (Again, the suits are nice but not top of the line, we definitely don't need top of the line) Due to the sale it was $1200. Because of the VERY generous amount of Christmas money we only had to pay $600 out of pocket.

Everyone there was wonderful, the whole process was EASY! I wish we could go back and get more but they did too good of a job as we are completely set for a good long while. Though if we do need more, Men's Warehouse for it and Men's Warehouse will be the first to be recommended. We are very pleased.

Nora Roberts' Happy Ever After (Book 4)

I am writing this review a bit late. I actually finished this book around the 20th. I did not attempt to bring this book to work, I have actually not brought any books with me to work as we just sent out our 2011 brochure so we are getting LOTS of calls and I want to be able to answer as many calls as possible. I read this one at home while Brian was working or playing his games.

This book focuses on the fourth girl, Parker. Parker, as you find out in the previous book, is the business woman. In this book you find out why she started the business, how she came up with the idea and more on how she ticks. It is also about how she falls in love with Mal Kavanaugh, a mechanic you meet in book 3. This book also has Mac's (the main focus of book 1) wedding in it. It is just as good as the previous three.

I just love this series. I am so sad it ended at 4! I wish there was a 5th that went through the other girls wedding and life after but all good things must come to an end I guess. I have already received my amazon order and have started reading the first book in Nora Roberts' Irish Trilogy and so far that is a very good book.  I will definitely have to post about that when I finished it :)

My birthday trip to Charleston

As promised, Brian took me to Charleston on 1/21st. We woke up late so we got there late but that was okay.

We ate lunch with our friend Will at a place called O'Charlies. We got lost so by the time we got there I was starving. The place is called O'Charlies on the sign but it's address in the iPhone and GPS has it as Charlies Grill and Tavern or something like that. O'Charlies is a great restaurant in North Charleston. When we got there Will had ordered us some delicious nachos and we added onto that with some wonderful chicken fingers with great barbecue sauce. Brian got a burger, Will got the chicken fingers again, and I got a Southwestern salad. It was very good. We would go back again for sure and I wish we had one up in Myrtle Beach.

After lunch we hung out at a nearby mall  until Will had to leave for work. Brian and I continued to walk around. Their mall is no better then ours though all the stores are A LOT larger in size and would be that much better to shop in. After we got sick of the mall, Brian and I headed to Charleston.

We parked and walked down through the battery and around town trying to burn off our lunch and get hungry for our dinner at our favorite restaurant Blossoms. It was a beautiful day out, 58 degrees! I had on jeans, a nice black short sleeved shirt and my nice new Dansko Mary Jane heals. I had a leather jacket that I wore as it got cool. It was a wonderful night. Brian and I talked all throughout our walk. It was just so nice!

Soon it became 6pm and we figured we should go in an eat. We were not at all hungry as lunch was so late but we did want to get home at a decent hour and my feet were killing me! I had thought I had broken in my new shoes enough but apparently not. I had to take them off during dinner. We skipped the appetizer, something we never do, and went straight to dinner. I had steak with blue cheese butter, potato confit and creamy spinach. Brian had swordfish with a mustard sauce over fettuccine with rapini which is what I got last time. My steak arrived cut up in 5 pieces. I ate 2 of those, the spinach and a taste or two of the potato. It was VERY good, don't get me wrong I just was not hungry at all. Brian finished his swordfish and had a bite or two of the pasta and then he was done. We were just so full from lunch and we both tried to take it easy. I don't think either of us were in the mood for desert, I know I wasn't, but I think Brian felt bad as this was supposed to be our nice birthday dinner so we ordered the red velvet bread pudding. VERY good but I ate two bites and was done. That is UNHEARD of for me and desert especially when it is bread pudding.

After dinner we drove home and watched some TV as neither of us was tired. All in all, a very good birthday trip to Charleston :)

I LOVE it when projects get finished!

Before the New Year, it may have actually been on my old blog, I had three projects that I was working on that I really wanted to get finished. As I think about it, I do believe it was on the old blog so I will go over that list again.

1) Recipes.

Brian and I have been collecting recipes for years. He has written down his, I have my own that I have found before our relationship and then of course the recipes we have found together. We really wanted to type them all out and make our own cookbook out of them. This was a really daunting task for me to do. We had hundreds of recipes to type up and it just stops being fun after 5 recipes.

2) Photobooks

I take LOTS of pictures if you haven't noticed. I also love photo albums. It would be WAY to expensive to print all of my photo's and put them into albums the old fashioned way so doing digital Photobooks is my compromise. Though it isn't really a compromise as I love them all! I started with my Study Abroad pictures years ago but the site I used ruined them so I had to start over. I really wanted to finish them as I had 19 books just for Study Abroad let alone all the books I wanted to do of Brian's and my adventures. I have found a great company called Shutterfly and just love them so far. I really want to finish and keep up with my adventures this way

3) My scrapbook

I started a scrapbook when Brian and I started dating and I have it finally up to date till this last May. Since then our third anniversary happened, Brian's bday, trip to Savannah, Nicole/Adam's wedding, the Baptism, Brians' Bday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and my bday have passed. I need to get it updated. I also need to get engaged so I can start a new scrapbook as the current one is about to split :)

Well I finally made progress. I got 2 and 1/2 projects finished!

1) I got the recipes all typed up. I am still collecting them so now I need to make sure I keep that updated but the hard part of that project is over. My drive was that I was using it as a Christmas present.

2) On 1/21 I finished ALL of the photobooks! I am finally done with ALL of my Study Abroad photobooks and I have done all of Brian's and my current trips. I did decide to use my birthday money towards this as well so I do not have as much for decorating but I do have some left over and the money that I was planning on saving for photobooks can be made into a decorating fund. I decided to go ahead and get them all done because A) I was able to upload all of the photo's myself which I haven't ever been able to do, I have always had to mail them in a CD and B) I had gotten some great discounts. This is another post I have written in advance so by the time this actually posts I could have them at home with me.

3) At the same time I did the photobooks, I got the pictures ordered for my scrapbook. When they come I just need to sit down and make the pages. I will need to go to Michaels to get pretty stickers and such but other then that, it will be finished!

I am a type A personality so I definitely do not like having projects unfinished so this definitely makes me very happy. These projects being done and very close to being done means that I can start a new project without feeling too much guilt about not finishing what I started. That new project is knitting! My Gamma Kay used to knit and my mom knows how and I would like to re-learn. My Gamma taught me at one point but I never did it so it never stuck. I have ideas to use them for presents and my mom found a company that will give knitted baby hats to newborns. I just think it would be something to do that would be productive. I cannot wait to start!

30 Day Project/Challenge: Day 10

1) Someone you need to let go or wish you didn't know?

Honestly? No one. Sure there are people in my lives that have upset me or made me mad but I wouldn't be here today if it were not for them. Sure I am not exactly where I would have thought or wanted in every aspect, but I could be in A LOT worse situations.

2) Any photo you like for any reason

Nora Roberts' Savor the Moment (The Bride Quartet, Book 3)

It took me longer to read this book then the others because work picked up.

In this book you get to know the character of Laurel better. Laurel ends up getting engaged to Parker's ( the 4th girl and you will find out more about her other then what is in books 1-3 in book 4) brother Delaney. This was hinted at in the previous books and isn't a spoiler because the story isn't who it is how they end up. Plus if it says who they end up in on the inside flap it should be okay to say in a blog :).

I loved this book! I cannot get enough of the series. I wrote this post on the 19th of January and am about to start the 4th. The story is getting kind of predictable but then again I am reading them back to back so it is kind of like one LONG story. I may not have noticed the pattern if I had taken some time in between them. It was too good not too!

While we are at it...

Amazon.com is amazing as well :) With my brother's gift card to Amazon.com I got the second two books in the No 1 Detectives Agency series, Nora Roberts Irish trilogy and a book on knitting (a new hobby I want to try). I got all of that and only had to spend less then $8 of my own money :)

Fyi: If anyone needs/wants to buy stuff on amazon, click on one of my links and go to it that way. I get a little money from it and you get what you were already going to get anyway :)

Shutterfly is AMAZING!

My books are here already! I am in a bit of a tiff over the price...they say I have free shipping but I do not see it, but that doesn't matter! I ordered 11 photo books on my birthday (Jan 15th in case you forgot), was told they were shipped on January 18th and they arrived at 6:19PM January 19th.  I made a couple goofs. I forgot to write the title of about half of those books on the spine but I think my boss at work has a label maker that can print in white (my books are black) so while it may not look as nice as the others, it would definitely work!

I am currently uploading the rest of my study abroad and NC photos so I can get those ordered. I cannot believe I got the books today!

30 Day Project/Challenge: Day 9

Maybe it wasn't a good thing to start a 30 day challenge over the holidays?

1) Some one you didn't want to let go but just drifted

um....unfortunately there are several. I don't like losing friends and wish I was still friends with all of them. I guess my biggest regret would be my friend Kristin from HS (She is in my bday photo gallery). We just drifted after I went away to college. I think she is doing well...going to school part time and working for her father. I contacted her a long time ago and everything was fine. I dunno, I miss her. Our relationship changed completely. While I know I haven't kept in touch, she hasn't either. When we have talked it was always because I emailed her/called her/IMed her, etc. She was my MOH in my wedding or at least that we talked about when I was in HS. She will still be invited to do it but at this point I doubt she will come. We just don't have anything in common other then being best friends in HS and the closest thing to a sister I had.

2) A photo of yourself as a baby

Brian is on the computer so I can't scan in one that you haven't seen already so here is a repeat

Nora Roberts' Bed of Roses (The Bride Quartet, Book 2)

This is the second book in the quartet and even better then the last. This  focus' on Emma  and how she falls in love with Jake another life long friend. Emma comes from a strong family background is a hopeless romantic but can't seem to make relationships work until Jake. Jake is a ladies man, a good, kind, respectable ladies man, but a ladies man none the less. He is not a man of commitment; he never cheats but the relationships never lasts long. These two personalities and traits cause quite the story. You also catch up with Mackenzie and Carter, the other girls and learn more about the business and the clients they serve.

I started it on Sunday and finished it today. As I was at Caroline's on Sunday I didn't get a chance to read it at home but I could not get it out of my mind. It almost had me in tears at the front desk. The emotions were just so real and you felt like the characters were your best friends. I cannot wait to read the third book.

Thursday, January 20, 2011

I know what I am spending my bday money on!

I have figured it out! Maybe I have been in the South too long or at Caroline's too much but having the house decorated for the holidays and/or season has become important to me. Or at least something I want to do. The catch, I do not have the money to buy the necessary decorations. The little extra money I do have I feel can be put to better use even if it is not on bills or savings. Hence why Caroline's gift of Vday decorations were so awesome! I think Caroline is making that her pet project...keeping up to date with holiday decorations as she was talking about St Patrick's day and Easter as I was leaving.

While I can't wait and appreciate her to no end, I realized I could spend my bday money on it as well. I figure I start with the kitchen and then move to other rooms. Napkins, place mats, dishtowels, etc for Xmas, Easter, Vday, 4th of July, a summer/fall/spring/winter theme, etc. Very basic, very low key but fun as well. Stuff that I can use here in the apartment and bring into our house when we buy one. Brian and I both don't want to buy things for this apartment that we can't move with us, we see it as a waste of money. So it will be things I do actually like and need. Maybe this place will start to feel like a home!

Nora Roberts' Vision in White (The Bride Quartet, Book 1)

I was so excited to read this book. It was amazing! The four books center around 4 young girls who have been friends since childhood and their lives and work as wedding planners. This book centered around Mackenzie. Mackenzie had an awful awful mother, absent father and those issues definitely affected her relationships. This first book describes how she meets Carter, a man who she went to school with, falls in love with Carter, the four girls and their history and their business. Mackenzie is definitely the focus but you learn a lot about the other girls as well. I do not want to say anymore about what this book is about as I can't do it justice and I want people to enjoy it just as much as I did.

I could not stop reading it. The idea of the books is also to give me stuff to do at work other then playing on the computer. So I am only supposed to read during work. I could not stop reading it literally. I read more then half of it at work (we were very slow and it is a bit of an easy read) and came home and just had to finish it.  I was SO excited for work the next day to start reading the second book. SO good!

My Birthday

My birthday was on Saturday, Jan 15. Brian and I decided to open presents Friday after a wonderful two day weekend rather then wait a week or so. If other presents arrived after, I would open them as they came. Only one did :).

I had a wonderful birthday. I still do not feel 26 or 25 oh well. As I still have my Christmas tree out (see told you I was lazy) we had stored them all there.

My Mommy got me these:

www.pajamacity.com

They are SOOO comfy! The butt flap is infinitely better. I was concerned that it was still Velcro and Velcro doesn't stay as well as one would hope. I thought I would have to return it for another one without a butt flap but decided against it. I figured I would give it a shot and if it was an issue I could always attach snaps and hopefully between the snaps AND Velcro, I would be all set. Well I do not think I have to do anything to these pjs. As long as I am slightly cautious/aware when I sit down, the Velcro does not rip apart. SO comfy! I think I am going to have to buy another pair! They may be a bit too big but I like my pjs big and I think the next size down would be too small. I am wearing them now and Brian thinks they are the cutest thing ever!

Mommy and Daddy also got me Nora Roberts Bridal Quartet:

Remember my post about my new New Years Resolution? Where I read at least one book each month? I can't remember if I said this but I stole that idea from a fellow blogger. She had read a couple of the books from this series and loved it. These are the books that inspired me to even attempt the great idea and became a great gift! I have read the first two already and will post on those two specifically later.  So far I am LOVING it! I think I may have a new favorite author.

Mom and Dad also got me a new pair of yoga pants. They look so comfy and they look like they fit but to tell the truth...I still haven't tried them on due to me not being able to get out of these feetie pajamas.

My Aunt and Gramma gave me more money. I will be able to finish buy all of my Study Abroad books and more with my Christmas money so I have to figure out what to spend my Bday money. It will be something fun due to A) I feel like spending it on something fun (rare, I know) and B) I know if I don't and spend it on bills, etc. the money will be cut off lol :). And I just have NO idea what that something fun is. I am having multiple debates in my head about it.

My brother also gave me a very nice gift of an Amazon Gift Card. I love it and appreciate it! I can't decide what to spend it on either though! I have it narrowed it down to books but I don't know if I want to buy more Nora Roberts or the rest of No 1. Detective Agency.

Brian's gift is taking me to Charleston. He wanted to do a cooking class at our favorite kitchen store, Charleston Cooks!, for lunch and then dinner at our favorite restaurant Blossom. Well all the cooking classes are full so we will have to do something else but dinner at Blossom is still on. I think he was thinking of getting a hotel room and doing an overnight trip (Charleston is an easy day trip for us). I am not sure when we are going. He was thinking Thursday/Friday but he had to pick up a shift on Friday so now the idea is Wednesday/Thursday.

On Sunday I went over to Caroline and Allyson's as usual where we celebrated Allyson's and my birthdays (her's is January 16th). It was a blast! Caroline had made pork roast, asparagus with a hollandaise (spelling?) sauce and mashed potatoes with cheese cake for desert. Caroline and Allyson had given me 2 Valentines Day pot holders and 6 VDay hand made themed napkins. SO cute!

That was about it for my birthday! I will write about Charleston when we get back :) I am SO excited to get away!

Tears of the Giraffe

This is the second book I have read this month. This is book 2 in the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency series.

This book is just as good as the first. I don't really want to describe what happens as I do not want to give away the story and I don't think I can give it justice. Mma Ramotswe continues to take on cases, some that are easy and some that are harder. The hard one in this book is looking for an American boy.  She promotes her Secretary to Assistant Detective, agrees to marry her friend the mechanic and just lives her life. There is the continuing theme of the characters questioning morality and ethics and the differences between modern thinking vs Botswana tradition, American vs. African, etc. These questions are asked by everyone and the answers/beliefs that Mma Ramotswe and other characters come to believe are one's that the reader can relate too...no matter what their background.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I think I liked it better then the first. I am going to have to be careful and not read them so close together. This is very similar to the first book. There are different cases and different things happen but still can seem predictable. I have a feeling if I read them all back to back I would begin to get sick of it and feel like it is the same story which can get very boring. This is easy to fix as I have plenty of books to read before I order the 3rd.

I definitely recommend this series to anyone and everyone. We could all learn something from Mma Ramotswe. If anyone knows how to pronounce her name I will love you forever. Right now I am reading it as Ra-mot-swee but I do not think I am correct.
