The House: 11.12.11

Yesterday was a very busy day. We did go by the house and the vent for the microwave is there now but it wasn't there last Saturday and we have photographic proof. The head builder tried to tell the four of us (me, Brian, Al who is a builder and definitely knows what he is looking for and the sales lady) missed it. We did not miss it, it wasn't there. If the head builder had said that it wasn't there yet but will be, or that it is there now, he just checked on it we wouldn't have been upset. We just noticed it wasn't there and we had to ask for the venting to be done a certain way so that is one of the things we are looking out for and wanted to make sure they hadn't forgotten. If it wasn't supposed to be there yet that would have been fine. We just don't appreciate being told it was there when it clearly wasn't. The sales lady also unfortunately chose to lie as well on Saturday whether she knew it or not. We were asking when the dry wall was being put up and she said that the inspector didn't show so it will be put up after the inspector comes and approves the house which will be hopefully Monday. Inspectors don't just not show up. They HAVE to come if you make the appointment so either the builder forgot to make an appointment (highly unlikely) or the house failed inspection and has to be re-inspected. Now we know enough about building and inspection to know that just because a house fails inspection it doesn't mean the house is going to crumble when the wind blows. Sometimes one nail being out of whack can fail an inspection. We believe the house failed because the island is not securely fastened. The wind was causing it to move so we went to see the sales lady to ask them to put more nails on it because the island should be solid on its own and not use the cupboards and sinks to stabilize it. Currently the Island only has one nail holding it to the floor. We will check it next Saturday but we may not be able to tell depending on how much work they have done.

This Saturday we took Al and his friend David who is also a builder. We have been taking whoever we drag out, out to lunch as a thanks for helping us with looking at the house.

Thought this was amusing.....

When they blow insulation in they use those "rulers" to know when to stop
